There is a world of difference between the "hard sell" and creating a sense of urgency in a prospect. The first is universally viewed as negative; but the second sounds very reasonable, and doable.

Putting a timer on your landing page. Have it count down to some event. How many days, hours, minutes, until your big deal happens? Then make sure you have a link to an information site. People get awful nervous when they see a timer going; they respond by wanting to know what they might be missing.
